About Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Release (TNVR)

TNVR programs have been shown to be effective in stabilizing or reducing free-roaming cat populations over time. By neutering cats, the program helps to control their breeding and prevent the birth of more cats. Additionally, TNVR reduces the number of nuisance behaviors associated with unaltered cats, such as spraying, fighting, and yowling, which can lead to complaints from the public.TNVR also has benefits for the cats themselves. Neutered cats tend to have longer and healthier lives than their unaltered counterparts, as they are less likely to engage in risky behaviors such as fighting and roaming. Additionally, TNVR programs typically include vaccination and medical treatment for cats, which can improve their overall health and reduce the spread of diseases.

What are "community cats"?

Community cats, often called feral cats, live outdoors. Some are born outside, while others were once pets that were abandoned or lost and learned to survive on their own. Abandoned pets frequently join existing community cat colonies.Cats have lived alongside humans for thousands of years. While a few community cats may tolerate limited human contact, most are not socialized and cannot adapt to indoor life.Community cats live in groups called colonies, forming strong social bonds and settling where food and shelter are available—often near people. Though they live outdoors, they are a domesticated species and are protected under state anti-cruelty laws.
